SL vs PAK Review – Hasaranga floors high-flying Pakistan

Sri Lanka continued their excellent run in the tournament to finish the Super 4 with three out of three wins. Pakistan looked in complete disarray after collapsing for just 121 after cruising at 82 for 3 at one stage of the game. Babar played a 30-run knock at the top while Mohammad Nawaz’s quickfire 26 were the only two notable contributions from the Pakistan batting lineup.

In reply, the Sri Lankan side chased down the total comfortably with three overs in the bank, and opener Patham Nissanka did the bulk of the damage at the top with an unbeaten half-century. Wickets kept falling around at the start for Sri Lanka, however, Bhanuka Rapakaksa (24) and Dasun Shanaka (21) stitched crucial partnerships alongside Nissanka to take their side close to the total.

Top Performers of the game

Pathum Nissanka

Pathum Nissanka played a timely knock and continued his good form in the tournament with yet another fifty to his name. The right-hander was impeccable with his timing with the new ball and helped his side get past the line with an unbeaten 55 off 48 balls, including five fours and a six. His form will be a great positive for the Sri Lankan side going into the finals.

Wanindu Hasaranga

Wanindu Hasaranga started his assault by picking up the big wicket of Babar Azam and then cleaned up the defences of Asif Ali and Iftikhar Ahmed. He was also involved in two other catches apart from a runout and played a big part in restricting the Pakistan side to a par total. He also remained unbeaten on 10 while taking his side home in the run chase.

What next for the two teams

Both teams have progressed into the finals of the tournament and will play on Sunday (September 11) at the Dubai International Stadium.
