Venkatesh Iyer has been the talk of the town in the second leg of the IPL. The Kolkata Knight Riders’ (KKR) batsman has set the stage alight in the UAE with his pyrotechnics with the willow and has played a major role in helping the Knight Riders win both their matches in IPL Phase 2.

While Iyer scored 41* off 27 deliveries to help the Kolkata side annihilate the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) side with 9 wickets to spare, he followed that up by scoring a marauding 53 off 30 deliveries against the Mumbai Indians (MI) side, as the Kolkata outfit pummeled Rohit Sharma and his men by 7 wickets.

And now, Iyer has stated that he always wanted to be a part of the KKR franchise due to Sourav Ganguly. Adding that it was a dream come true moment for him when he got picked for the KKR side, Iyer added that he was welcomed warmly by the KKR family.

“Honesty, KKR was the first franchise I wanted to be part of purely because of Sourav Ganguly. He was the captain initially, so when I got picked for KKR, that was a dream come true moment for me to be honest. I got a very warm welcome on joining KKR,” said Iyer in a video that has been posted on

My life’s biggest moment will be when I meet Rajinikanth: Venkatesh Iyer

Venkatesh Iyer also revealed that he is a massive fan of Sourav Ganguly, and the current BCCI President has played a major role in his life. The KKR opener even added that he is grateful to Ganguly.

“I am huge fan of Dada. He has got millions of fans across the globe and I am one of them. Dada has played a huge role in my batting indirectly. I used to bat right-handed when I was young. But I wanted to replicate Dada exactly – the way he hit sixes, the way he batted and bowled. He has played a huge role, unknowingly, in my life and I am really grateful for that,” said the 26-year-old.

Venkatesh Iyer also said that he is a die-hard fan of South Indian Superstar Rajinikanth and concluded by stating that the biggest moment in his life will be when he gets to meet the 70-year-old acting legend.

“I never miss any of his films. I still remember when I was in Indore, I especially went to Chennai to watch his movie in a local theater. I am such a die-hard fan. My life’s biggest moment will be when I meet Rajinikanth,” concluded Iyer.
