The South African selectors have named the squads for their high-profile tour of India. The Proteas will visit India to play 3 T20Is and 3 Test matches. While Faf du Plessis will continue to lead the side in the longest format of the game, wicketkeeper-batsman Quinton de Kock has been named as the T20I captain for the tour. Temba Bavuma will be du Plessis’ deputy during the Test leg of the tour.

The new inclusions in the Test squad include pacer Anrich Nortje, keeper-batsman Rudi Second and spinner Senuran Muthusamy. Their inclusion is a part of the gradual overhaul of the squad after the retirements of Hashim Amla from international cricket and Dale Steyn from Test cricket.

Speaking on their inclusion, CSA Acting Director of Cricket, Corrie van Zyl said:

“All three newcomers to the Test side have more than earned their spurs through impressive performances in last season’s Four-Day Franchise competition. We feel we have covered all the options for the conditions we are likely to encounter on the sub-continent with Muthusamy and Dane Piedt, who was far and away the leading wicket-taker in our Four-Day competition, providing the back-up to Keshav Maharaj.”

South Africa’s tour of India will begin with the T20I series on September 15. The Test series will begin on October 2 in Visakhapatnam.
