T20 WC 2021: AFG vs SCO Preview – Afghanistan up against spirited Scotland

Afghanistan and Scotland are all set to play against each other as they begin their super 12 round games at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021. The situation in both camps is slightly different. Scotland are upbeat having won every game, including one against Bangladesh, to enter this stage.

On the other hand, Afghanistan would cherish the fact that they are coming into this tournament, having secured a direct qualification. Though, on paper, with experience, Afghanistan has a better chance on this surface. However, make no mistake, Scotland have had a trick up their sleeves all the time. This match could in fact be closer than what everyone expects.

Match Info

Afghanistan vs Scotland, 17th Match, Super 12 Group 2

Venue: Sharjah Cricket Stadium, Sharjah

Time: 7:30 PM IST

Head to head:

The only T20 World Cup game between Afghanistan and Scotland was played in 2016, which was also the last T20I between them. Afghanistan won that game by 14 runs.

Team News:

Afghanistan: Afghanistan will be back playing under their former skipper and experienced pro, Mohammad Nabi. The kind of form which they have shown in the warm-up matches should be a worrying sign for the opposition team and can present a lot of challenges. Having said that, the composition of the side is a mystery, given they played with a lot of options in the warm-ups and have not played any T20I recently. We can expect a spin-heavy side from them.

Scotland: There is no reason why Scotland shouldn’t back the same combination in this match, given how successful they have been. More than anything, the team seems to be perfect for the conditions and can deliver. There is good enough depth in the batting while with the bowling as well, they have options. No changes are expected.
