T20 WC 2021: ENG vs SL Preview – England a win away from all but reaching semi-finals

Eoin Morgan

England and Sri Lanka are all set to meet each other in a Super 12 game in the T20 World Cup 2021. This game will be an important one for Sri Lanka as they are living dangerously after their consecutive losses against Australia and South Africa. Their only win at this stage came against Bangladesh in Sharjah.

On the other hand, England’s approach to this game will be quite different. They have already defeated West Indies, Bangladesh and Australia in the Super 12 round and are on the verge of qualification. Having had the wood over Sri Lanka and having beaten them 3-0 earlier this year, England should back them to win this game by a huge margin and seal their semi-final spot.

Match Info

England vs Sri Lanka, 29th Match, Super 12 Group 1

Venue: Sharjah Cricket Stadium, Sharjah

Time: 7:30 PM

Head to head:

In T20 World Cups, England have won three games (in 2010, 2014 and 2016) while Sri Lanka have won one clash in 2012.

Team News:

England: Mark Wood and Tom Curran both were reported with some niggles when the tournament started. With them on the bench, England have still managed to have a rounded and formidable XI. There are no injury concerns within the group that played against Australia recently and there won’t be any problem which England will have in fielding a similar XI.

Sri Lanka: The Sri Lankan team has no injury concerns whatsoever which is a really positive sign for them. Having said that, they might not think too much about changing their team heading into this game. The only guy who possibly has an outside chance of coming in is Akila Dhananjaya, but looking at the pitch and everyone else’s performance, even that is unlikely.
