T20 WC 2022: IND vs SA Review – Miller-Markram steal the game from India

It was a close-fought battle between India and South Africa, but the Proteas came out victorious as they held their nerves at key moments and were rewarded with a hard-earned victory against the Men in Blue during a group stage encounter of the T20 World Cup 2022.

Speaking about the game, it was India who won the toss and opted to have a bat first. However, they soon rued their decision as pacer Lungi Ngidi steamed in with venom and dismissed Rohit Sharma first, getting extra bounce. Rohit’s attempted pull saw the ball balloon up as the bowler himself completed the catch. He then dismissed KL Rahul in the same over as the Indian opener played a nothing shot to get an edge.

Ngidi did not stop after that as another two fine short balls did the trick as Virat Kohli and Hardik Pandya holed out. It was an excellent short-bowling ploy. However, batter Suryakumar Yadav came out with only one motive, to break the shackles and rescue his team from a tricky situation.

The right-handed batter held his nerves at played a gritty inning of 68 off 40 deliveries. On a tricky Perth wicket, Suryakumar scored with a strike rate of 170.00 and he struck 6 fours and 3 sixes. It was Suryakumar Yadav’s efforts that helped India reach a respectable total of 133 at the end of 20 overs

In reply, the Proteas stuttered a bit in the chase. However, some batting brilliance from Aiden Markram and David Miller ensured that South Africa complete the task of chasing 133 runs in their allotted 20 overs.

Top performers of the match:

Lungi Ngidi:

As mentioned above, Ngidi completely bamboozled the Indian batting line-up as he simply looked unplayable. The right-arm pacer took full advantage of the Perth track and showed his abilities with the ball.

Suryakumar Yadav:

Team India were in tatters when Suryakumar walked to bat. Not only he took an attack against the African bowling department, but he also completed a well-deserved fifty. The right-handed batter is expected to play a crucial role for India in the upcoming games.

What’s next for both sides?

While team India will take on Bangladesh in their next encounter, South Africa will face Pakistan who opened their account on Sunday after defeating the Netherlands in a one-sided affair.
