T20 World Cup 2021: 5 Players to watch out for

The T20 World Cup 2021 is heating with eight teams fighting for the final four spots left in the Super 12 stage. As we look forward to the main stage of the tournament, here are five players to watch out for. In this list, we have included players who have the opportunity to take their stature to the next level by putting up performances on the biggest stage of all.

5. Tabraiz Shamsi

Tabraiz Shamsi will be playing his first big event for Proteas where he is a certain starter in the XI. In the past year, he has put up some great performances which have helped him to reach the pinnacle of the T20I bowler’s ranking. Entering an event like this as the no. 1 ranked brings a lot of expectations and allows champion players to stand up and grab the headlines. For South Africa to perform better than what is expected, Shamsi will have to play a huge role.

4. Glenn Maxwell

Now, one may argue that Maxwell is an established international player, but this year the situation is a bit different. Sure, Maxwell is arguably his country’s best T20 player and he has been in superb form in the UAE, but whether he will be able to bring the same form into the World Cup or not is something that remains to be seen. There is a narrative of the Aussies struggling in the shortest format, which Maxwell would want to alter. On top of that, how Australia uses him would also be an interesting aspect to watch for, given his brilliant ability with the ball and a bit of off-spin which gives him an edge over some of the other players on these pitches.

3. Liam Livingstone

Liam Livingstone lit up the English summer with his charismatic performances of power-hitting. The Lancashire player has been a revelation for the English team and would be expected to have an impact on the team’s performance. Having said that, he has a lot more to add with his fielding and part-time bowling. But, he had a terrible stint in the IPL and would be hoping to turn around his game. It would be interesting to see if he can adapt and attack or not.

2. Devon Conway

The New Zealand batter had made a great entry to international cricket with his performances across formats. After 14 T20Is, he still averages around 60 with a strike rate of 151. A stage like this is best suited for a player like him to test himself. There will be some challenges which he might face in adapting to the conditions and he is also coming back from an injury. But, after what he has shown so far, all we can expect is high-quality cricket from him.

The mystery spinner has been making a lot of noise with his performances in a recent couple of seasons of the IPL, especially his time in the UAE. In the recently concluded second leg, he was seen bowling some really wonderful spells full of variations, which kept foxing the batters and made life difficult for them. On the same surfaces in the UAE, he might become a big threat for the teams facing India.
