The Extras – Weekly round-up of cricket’s major happenings

The Extras

The Coronavirus pandemic which has spread across the globe has brought all sporting activities to a grinding halt. Even cricket hasn’t been spared with matches and tournaments being cancelled or postponed at a rapid rate. Like most of the world, cricketers have been stuck at home, which has allowed us to see a different side to their personality away from the heat of the action. Many have kept active on social media, keeping us updated with their daily happenings.

Here in the Extras, we take a look at what the players have been up to over the past week:

Warner does his best Katrina impersonation

Australian opener David Warner has become the latest cricketer to be bitten by the TikTok bug. Warner has created an account on the video-sharing social media platform and some of his content has been nothing short of sensational. The two videos which are making the biggest wave though are the ones with his daughters Ivy and Indi where he is crooning to Bollywood chartbuster ‘Sheila Ki Jawani’ immortalized by actress Katrina Kaif. If his videos on TikTok are anything to go by, we are in for a wild ride!

Smriti and Jemimah bust out the tunes

The womance between Smriti Mandhana and Jemimah Rodrigues. The pair often hang out together when not busy with their playing commitments and post goofy stuff across various social media platforms. With the nation under lockdown, the pair have taken the mantle to entertain the masses via Instagram and participated in an impromptu jam session, busting out some famous Bollywood tunes with their instruments.

Smith and batting – A much better love story than Twilight

Steve Smith’s infatuation with batting has now become somewhat of a running joke among his teammates. With the world under quarantine, this pleasure has now been somewhat taken away from the former Australian captain. But always the innovator, Smith has come up with a new way to do the thing he loves the most – batting.

Jimmy Neesham – the new Masterchef in town

Jimmy Neesham has become quite the celebrity for his antics on social media. During quarantine though, Neesham has used his time away from the game to perfect the art of cooking. And a quick glance at the dishes he has whipped out indicates quite a bright future for him as a chef after he is done with the game.
