Three biggest wins in Asia Cup history

Asia Cup has witnessed some amazing matches and thrilling finishes be it chasing a target or defending a target. But at the same time, we often see a team collapsing in a big chase and being dismissed for a very modest total and end up being on the losing side. Today we will look at the biggest wins in the Asia Cup history by runs.

3) Dhaka, June 02, 2000, Asia Cup – Pakistan vs Bangladesh

In this match, Pakistan opted to bat first and scored 320 runs in their 50 overs, courtesy of brilliant half-centuries by Imran Nazir and Mohammad Yusuf, as they both scored 80 runs each. Inzamam’s 75 and Shahid Afridi’s quick-fire 45 helped Pakistan to reach a big total in the end.

In pursuit of their chase of 321, the Bangladesh team could not get going and were totally dismantled by the fiery bowling of Pakistan as they were all out for just 87 runs and were defeated by 233 runs. Abdul Razzaq took three while Azhar Mahmood got two wickets.

2) Multan, August 30, 2023, Asia Cup – Pakistan vs Nepal

Captain Babar Azam won the toss and opted to bat first. Opening batters Fakhar Zaman and Imam-ul-Haq were dismissed quite cheaply, but Babar Azam’s entry at the crease changed the whole momentum of the game. Babar stitched a record-breaking 214-run partnership with Iftikhar Ahmed and helped Pakistan to score 342 runs in their 50 overs. Babar scored 151 while Iftikhar also scored a quick-fire century, which included eleven fours and four maximums.

As Nepal began their chase of the huge target of 343, the fiery Pakistani bowling lineup proved too difficult to handle for them as they were all out for just 104 runs and Pakistan won the match by a huge 238 runs. Shadab Khan emerged as the standout performer with the ball, taking four wickets.

1) Karachi, June 25, 2008, Asia Cup – India vs Hongkong

India batted first and scored a massive total of 374 runs in their 50 overs against Hong Kong in 2008. Gautam Gambhir and Virender Sehwag contributed with scores of 51 and 78 respectively. However, it was the partnership between Suresh Raina and MS Dhoni that propelled India to a mammoth total.

Dhoni played an outstanding innings, scoring 109 runs, while Raina showcased his brilliance by scoring 101 off just 68 balls. Their partnership played a crucial role in India’s dominant batting performance. In the chase, Hong Kong was never in contention as the Indian bowlers bundled them out for a mere 118 runs. It was a comprehensive victory for India as they won the match by a huge margin of 256 runs. Piyush Chawla was the standout performer with the ball, taking four wickets.
