Three bowlers with the most unorthodox bowling actions

Cricket certainly has a vast history as the game has undergone numerous transitions over the years. Initially, only Test cricket existed where teams grind it out for days to get the favourable result. Then ODI matches came into the picture and subsequently T20Is. Meanwhile, several cricketers made their name with their bowling and batting abilities.

However, there’s a section of players who became popular due to their uniqueness. Players like Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Fawad Alam will be remembered for their special stance while batting. At the same time, there are also some bowlers who bagged attention with their special action. Let’s have a look at them.

Here are three bowlers with unorthodox bowling actions in the history of cricket:

3. Lasith Maliga

Among the bowlers with unorthodox bowling actions, Lasith Malinga is by far the most successful. One of the finest pacers in the history of white-ball cricket, Malinga had a slinging action that made his deliveries difficult to read. Interestingly, accuracy was never an issue for Malinga and his pinpoint yorkers gave nightmares to many batters. The Sri Lankan pacer retired in 2021 with 546 international wickets against his name.

2. Sohail Tanvir

Pakistan never really had any shortage of quality fast bowlers. Sohail Tanvir also belongs to that category. However, what makes him different from others with his bowling action. Tanvir is one of the few wrong-footed bowlers as he landed his left leg while delivering a ball from his left arm. However, this uniqueness didn’t restrict the pacer from becoming a T20 star. He took 130 wickets in international cricket.

  1. Paul Adams

Paul Adams arguably had the most unconventional bowling action seen in international cricket. The left-arm spinner used to take a massive bend while delivering the ball. Hence, batters found it hard to understand where the ball was coming from. Notably, former England cricketer Mike Gatting famously described Adams’ action as “frog in a blender.” Meanwhile, Adams took 163 wickets in international cricket from 1995 to 2004.
