In any format of the game, the player who has the most impactful performance in the game is given the Player of the Match award. Usually, it is given to the player from the winning team to award his influence in the victory. However, there have been some players who are yet to win a Player of the Match award in different formats. In this article, we will be discussing 3 cricketers who played most T20Is without winning a Player of the Match award.

3. Dinesh Ramdin – 71

West Indies wicketkeeper Dinesh Ramdin has featured in 71 T20Is till now in which he has scored only 636 runs. He has a dismal average of 18.70 and a strike rate of 115.42 in the 20-over international career. Fare to say, he got selected in the T20I team mostly for his wicket-keeping duties. Ramdin did not win a single Player of the Match award in his T20I career and could hit only 1 half-century.

2. Asghar Afghan – 72

Asghar Afghan holds the record for most victories as a captain in T20I history. He also has the best win percentage as a captain in the 20-over format. However, his performance with the bat has not been that impressive.

He has scored 1341 runs in 71 innings at an average of 21.98 and a strike rate of 110.18. This includes a total of 4 half-centuries with a high score of 62. However, Afghan is still waiting for his first Player of the Match award in T20Is.

1. MS Dhoni – 98

Former Indian captain MS Dhoni holds the record for playing most T20I matches without winning the Player of the Match award. He made a stunning start to his captaincy career in T20Is by winning the 2007 T20 World Cup. However, in the next 5 T20 World Cups, India failed to repeat the heroics under his captaincy.

Dhoni’s performance with the bat in T20Is is not that extraordinary. He has scored 1617 runs in 85 innings at an average of 37.60 and a strike rate of 126.13. Dhoni could not win the Player of the Match award in his entire T20I career. He hit two fifties in T20Is, and among these, the first one came 10 years after his debut in the format.
