Three fastest Test centuries in Asia

England locked horns with Pakistan in a three-match Test series which commenced on December 1, Thursday. The match has yielded some terrific performances which no doubt will go down in the history of the red-ball format. The match on Day 1 also saw a few batters scoring a quick century without wasting too many balls. This in itself has garnered much attention for the sheer batting dominance. In this piece, we take a look a the top three such centuries in the Asian subcontinent-

3. Shahid Afridi – 78 balls

The Pakistan star all-rounder exploded against team India in the first innings of the test match as he scored a hundred off just 78 balls. Furthermore, the knock came after Younis Khan and Mohammad Yousuf scoring 199 and 173 runs respectively that helped Afridi take over and fire down the middle order. Pakistan ended with 679 runs on the board and eventually the match was drawn with India’s 410 for the loss of a wicket.

2. Brian Lara – 77 balls

The legendary West Indian southpaw scored a sensational innings. He showed his aggressive side in the red-ball format of the game against Pakistan at the Multan Cricket Stadium. In the 2006/07 season, Lara’s record for scoring a century off just 77 balls saw him stand second on the list of fastest centuries in Tests in Asia.

1. Mohammad Azharuddin, Kapil Dev, Majid Khan -77 balls

Azharuddin and Kapil Dev got their centuries from just 77 balls and occupy the top spot in the list alongside Majid Khan of Pakistan. Kapil Dev smashed a century against Sri Lanka. M Azharuddin got his against the Proteas. Majid Khan smashed his in Karachi against New Zealand. The three batters displayed sublime dominance in their batting innings. They got a three-digit figure off just 77 deliveries in a Test match.
