Top Australian cricketers team up to raise funds for India’s fight against COVID-19

The second wave of COVID-19 has grappled India at the moment and although the caseload has come down a little bit, the country is still witnessing 3.5 lakh cases every day. The count of active cases in India is currently more than a whopping 37 lakh and there is still considerable shortage of oxygen at the moment. COVID-19 also broke through the bio-secure bubble of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Several cricketers from different teams contracted the virus which led to the BCCI suspending the tournament mid-way after 29 matches. Even during the IPL, a lot of cricketers had come forward to help the country during these tough times. While a few Australian players were among them as well, more cricketers from the same country have once again offered help to the suffering Indian families now through UNICEF Australia.

The likes of Pat Cummins, Brett Lee, Ellyse Perry, Allan Border, Meg Lanning, Rachael Haynes among other few cricketers have joined hands once again for his noble gesture towards India. UNICEF Australia’s official Twitter handle revealed the same in a video where all the cricketers have urged everyone to come forward and help India during these troubled times.

“No one can do everything. But everyone can do something,” the Aussie cricketers said while making an appeal to everyone to help.

Meanwhile, the Australian cricketers, officials, and coaches who were in India featuring in the IPL, are currently in Maldives and are serving their mandatory quarantine before flying back home. Australia has banned all flights and citizens (even their own citizens) from India which has led to this problem for the players.

The ban stays until May 15 while the players are hoping to be back in the country after spending enough time in Maldives. The IPL was suspended on May 4 due to several positive cases inside the bio-secure bubble among a few teams.
