Top three centurions in Asia Cup

The 2022 Asia Cup is on the horizon and the historic tournament will provide the subcontinent sides to lay down a marker for all the other teams with the T20 World Cup in sight. The continental tournament was incepted in the year 1984 and featured just three teams, India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. India won the inaugural edition by defeating Sri Lanka in the final.   • Virat Kohli (India) and Shoaib Malik (Pakistan) – 3 centuries

It’s almost impossible to compile a list of batting records without Virat Kohli’s name in it. The modern era great has left no tournament untouched with his brilliance, and the Asia Cup is no different as the former Indian skipper has registered three centuries, including his highest ODI score of 183 runs off 148 deliveries against arch-rivals Pakistan in 2012’s edition of the tournament.

Pakistan’s evergreen cricketer Shoaib Malik is probably the country’s most underrated cricketer of all time as he has tended to escape the allure of the media even after registering numerous match-winning performance for his national side. The reliable all-rounder has three centuries to his name in 21 matches in the tournament.

One of the game’s finest and arguably Sri Lanka’s greatest ever batter, Kumar Sangakkara, was quite expectedly prolific in the Asia Cup. The mesmerizing southpaw registered four centuries in the history of the tournament and was crucial in his side’s victory over India in the 2004 final in front of the home crowd in Colombo.

Sanath Jayasuriya (Sri Lanka) – 6 centuries

Former Sri Lankan opening batter Sanath Jayasuriya tops the list with six centuries to his name in the history of the prestigious competition. The explosive opener has featured 25 times for the Sri Lankan team in the tournament and is the leading run-scorer of the tournament, along with most centuries to his name. His finest ton came in the 2008 final when he single-handedly decimated the Indian team to lift the prestigious trophy, with a blistering 125 off 114 deliveries.
