Top three youngest centurions in Test cricket

Scoring a century in limited-over format can be considered as tough but making a hundred in the Test matches is not a piece of cake for every batter. There are several batters who are yet to score a century in the longest format of the game despite playing Test cricket for years but are some batters who have shown immense grit and determination to score a hundred at a very young age. On that note, let us take a look at the top three youngest centurions in Test cricket. Let us start:

3. 17y 107d – Sachin Tendulkar vs England in 1990

Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar comes third in this elite list after smashing a hundred against England at an age of 17 years and 107 days. Tendulkar scored an excellent 68 runs during the first innings and helped his team to post a competitive score. However, England overscored India’s first innings total. Coming to the second innings, Tendulkar scored an unbeaten 119 runs and put on a valuable 160-run partnership with Manoj Prabhakar to save the Test and was adjudged the Player of the Match.

2. 17y 78d – Mushtaq Mohammad vs India in 1961

Pakistan batter Mushtaq Mohammad comes second in the list after smashing an excellent century against the arch-rivals India in 1961. Team India scored an excellent 400+ score in the first innings and Pakistan on the back of Mushtaq’s 101 scored 286 runs. To note, he was just 17 years and 78 days of age at the time. The match also ended in a draw as Mushtaq scored 22 runs in the second innings.

1. 17y 61d – Mohammad Ashraful vs Sri Lanka in 2001

Former Bangladesh skipper Mohammad Ashraful comes first on the elite list after scoring an excellent century against Sri Lanka in 2001. Bangladesh were bundled out for only 90 runs in their first innings. In reply, Sri Lanka scored a huge 555 runs in their first innings. Coming to bat in the second innings, Ashraful scored a brilliant 114, hitting 16 boundaries. Even though Sri Lanka won the contest easily, Ashraful’s innings will be remembered as one of the best in international cricket.
