Trent Boult, Kyle Jamieson return as New Zealand announce squad for England ODIs

Trent Boult and Kyle Jamieson return to New Zealand’s ODI squad for England series in September as they look to fine-tune their final combination for the all-important 2023 World Cup in India.

Kyle Jamieson, who has been recovering from a back injury, is quite under-cooked concerning game time and has not played an international game since June 2022. On the other hand, Trent Boult, who has played a vital role in the Kiwis’ setup for the last decade or so, last played an ODI game against Australia at Cazaly’s Stadium in Cains back in September 2022.

“We’re delighted to include Kyle in this squad alongside his earlier selection for the T20 squads to play the UAE and England. He’s been working extremely hard on his rehabilitation following back surgery, and we’re looking forward to seeing him back playing on the international stage,” Gary Stead was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.

“It’s also great to welcome Trent back into our ODI unit as he begins his preparation towards the World Cup in India. It’s always been our plan in talking with Trent, along with a whole lot of other people around what their plan looks like for each individual, and Trent and I have talked that this is the right build-up for him as we lead towards that World Cup. We’re still trying to be adaptable and flexible to what those players’ needs are and we certainly haven’t closed the door on anyone and this is a good example of Trent coming back and being part of our squad as we build up to the pinnacle event.”

New Zealand allrounder Michael Bracewell did not make the cut after failing to regain full fitness following his ruptured achilles surgery in June, while all-rounders James Neesham and Mark Chapman missed out due to family obligations.

Kane Williamson is set to travel with the New Zealand team to attend training sessions and continue his rehab following his ligament surgery. Leg-spinner Ish Sodhi will fly back home after the T20I series, which ends on September 4, to spend some quality family time.
