U19 WC 2022: 5 top run-getters of the tournament

India got the better of England by four wickets in the ICC U19 World Cup 2022 final at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound, Antigua on Saturday to win their record fifth title. All-rounder Raj Bawa starred with his outstanding all-round performances with both the bat and ball. While he registered a fifer in the first innings he scored an impactful 35 in the second.

The just-concluded tournament in the West Indies saw many emerging batters who made a tremendous impact on the 22 yards and could announce their arrival to international cricket in future for their respective sides. Without further ado, here’s a look at five of the highest run-getters in the 2022 edition of the U19 World Cup.

Dewald Bravis

Dewald Bravis, also known as ‘Baby AB’ for his striking resemblance to ‘Mr.360’ AB de Villiers finished as the top run-getter of the competition having amassed 506 runs from six matches averaging 84.33 and a strike rate of 90.19 including two centuries and three half-centuries. The promising batter played a huge role in South Africa’s progress to the quarterfinals where they went down to the eventual runners-up England. ‘Baby AB’ was adjudged the Player of the Tournament.

Haseebullah Khan

HaseebullahKhan was a silver lining in the dark cloud for Pakistan. The southpaw showcased consistent performances against Zimbabwe (135), 79 against the former champions Bangladesh and 136 against Sri Lanka. Khan finished with 380 runs from six games averaging 76 and a strike rate of 80.85 including two hundreds and a fifty. The left hander was key in the Boys In Green making the quarterfinals where they lost to Australia.

Tom Priest

Tom Priest not only led England from the front on the field but also made his bat do the talking throughout the tournament. While, he could not do much in crucial games, Priest played a handy role in England reaching the finals where they went down to India. He finished with 292 runs from six innings averaging 58.40 and a strike rate of 102.45 including a century and a half-century each.

Teague Wyllie

Teague Wyllie was one of the impactful batters for Australia in the 2022 edition of the ICC U19 World Cup that was held in the Caribbean as he played some good knocks to help the Aussies make the semis where they went down to the eventual champions India. He finished with 278 runs from six games averaging 69.50 and a strike rate of 73.15. including a century and a half-century. His best knock was against Pakistan in the quarterfinal where he scored a match-winning 71.

Angkrish Raghuvanshi

Angkrish Raghuvanshi helped India in getting off to good starts upfront in their successful U19 World Cup campaign. He could not make much of an impact in the semi-final and the final. Even though the opener was dismissed for a silver duck in the final against England, the budding opener amassed 278 runs in six outings averaging 46.33 at a strike rate of 89.38 including a hundred and a fifty each.
