‘Virat Kohli deserves a lot of credit for going with instincts’ – Simon Katich

In a cricket match, the captain plays a key role in spearheading his side to a win. It is the captain who marshals his troops, it is the captain who thinks of strategic field placements, and it is the captain who decides crucial bowling changes as well.

And, in the match between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Virat Kohli’s decision to throw the ball to left-arm spinner Shahbaz Ahmed proved to be a masterstroke. Ahmed scalped 3 wickets in the 17th over of the SRH innings, and also gave away just a single run. It was Ahmed who turned the fortunes of the match towards the RCB side.

And now, Simon Katich has revealed that it was Virat Kohli’s gut feeling that prompted the RCB side to ask Ahmed to have a bowl. Katich concluded by stating that Kohli deserves a lot of credit for taking this decision and going by his instincts.

Virat Kohli led Royal Challengers Bangalore move to the top of the points table

And, with the victory over the David Warner-led Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) side, the Royal Challengers Bangalore side has moved to the top of the points table. The Virat Kohli-led side has won both the matches that they have played in the 2021 edition of the IPL and have experienced a rousing start to their campaign.

Glenn Maxwell was the star performer for the RCB side with the willow in hand in the match against SRH. The Australian batting powerhouse scored a 41-ball 59 to power the RCB side to a total of 149/8 in their allotted 20 overs. On a pitch where the ball was not coming onto the bat, Maxwell played a classic knock.

RCB skipper Virat Kohli also scored a crucial 33 at the top of the order. In reply, even though SRH skipper David Warner plundered a brisk 54 at a strike rate of 145.94, the ‘Orange Army’ fell short of the target by 6 runs.

The Bangalore outfit will play their next match of the 14th IPL edition on 18th April 2021 against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
