West Indies name T20I squad for India, New Zealand series

Cricket West Indies announced a strong 16-member squad for the upcoming T20Is against India, which is set to begin on July 29. West Indies will play five games against India and, after the conclusion of the series, will face New Zealand in a three-match T20I series. West Indies, who lost the ODI series against India, will now have the services of Shimron Hetmyer for the 20-over games.

The first three games against India will be played in West Indies. The first game is scheduled to be hosted by the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Tarouba. The contest will also be the first-ever international game to be played at this venue. The second and third games will be played at Warner Park, Basseterre, St Kitts, and the final two games will be played at Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground, Lauderhill, Florida.

Nicholas Pooran will continue his role as the team’s skipper and will be assisted by Rovman Powell as his deputy. Shamarh Brooks, Brandon King, Kyle Mayers, and Hetmyer form a strong batting lineup for the hosts. Hetmyer, the prolific batter, who is known for scoring the winning runs for the team, missed out on the ODI series against India but will be back in the Maroon for the upcoming T20Is.

West Indies have a bunch full of all-rounders on the side, and every player is known for the power-hitting. Players like Jason Holder, Romario Shepherd, Odean Smith, Dominic Drakes, Devon Thomas, Keemo Paul, and Akeal Hosein are all proven match winners and have assisted their side in finishing some epic run chases.

After putting out a close fight in the first two ODIs of the three-match series against India, the hosts will have the passion and hunger to cover up for the losses. The Men in Maroon, in their previous T20I stint against Bangladesh, showcased some fine performances and bagged a 2-0 win after the first match was abandoned.

West Indies to face New Zealand after India assignment

They would look to repeat some similar heroics against India and New Zealand. For the subsequent three-match T20I Series against New Zealand at Sabina Park, which spans from Wednesday, August 10, to Sunday, August 14, the same group of 16 players will depart for Jamaica. Prior to each game, a 13-player official squad will be named.
