When MS Dhoni picks a team, he never disappoints the fans: CSK CEO

It seems that the Chennai Super Kings might be in the perfect frame of mind ahead of the upcoming IPL 2022 mega auction. CSK are expected to make some smart buys at the two-day event in Bengaluru this weekend and it should not come as a surprise if they also ended up roping in some of the key players for the 15th edition of the marquee tournament. The four-time winners still have a purse remaining INR 48 crore with 21 slots available i.e. 14 Indian and seven overseas players respectively.

Meanwhile, the Chennai-based franchise’s chief executive officer Kasi Vishwanathan has made it clear that when the ‘Thala’ MS Dhoni picks a team at the auctions, he never lets the fans down and also gave further clarification saying that is how the 2011 World Cup-winning skipper picks a team. With such a strong statement just a day before the auction, it can be assumed that the four-time winners have planned their strategy nicely and the legendary skipper could also be present at the event.

MS Dhoni never disappoints the fans: CSK CEO

“I have only one thing to tell our fans: every time Thala (MS Dhoni) picks a team in the auctions, he never disappoints the fans. That’s the kind of team he will pick”, said CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan on the eve of the IPL 2022 mega auction as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.

The title-holders had made their four mandatory retentions just months before the IPL 2022 mega auction as they retained the talismanic skipper Dhoni, last year’s Orange Cap winner Ruturaj Gaikwad, star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja and his English counterpart Moeen Ali respectively. With a phenomenal amount of money still in their purse, the four-time champions could rope in a couple of impactful players on whom they could even spend a fortune.

590 players – 370 Indians and 220 overseas – have been shortlisted to go under the hammer and it would be interesting to see what the final squads will look like. CSK who would be defending their title in a few months’ time will be looking to rebuild their team with an eye on taking their legacy forward.
