WI vs IND: 1st Test Venue Report – Dominica

After suffering defeat in the World Test Championship (WTC) final at the hands of the mighty Aussies, Team India now head to West Indies for a full-fledged series. The tour begins with a two-match Test series followed by three one-day internationals and five T20 internationals.

The opening Test is set to take place on July 12 at Windsor Park, Roseau in Dominica while the second and final game will be played from July 20 at Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain in Trinidad. Notably, the Test series marks the start of the new WTC cycle for both the West Indies and India as they look to begin it on a positive note.

Talking about the home side, they recently got crashed out of the ICC World Cup Qualifiers held in Zimbabwe as their hopes of qualifying for the marquee tournament were ended by some shambolic performances. The Caribbean side’s last appearance in the longest format of the game came back in February-March this year.Kraigg Brathwaite and his men locked horns with South Africa in South Africa where they lost the two-match series 2-0.

Speaking of the venue for the opening Test against India, the home side’s first game in Dominica came against the same opposition India back in 2011. The match ended up in a draw while their last appearance at this ground came against another Asian giants Pakistan in 2017 when they lost by 101 runs. It also happened to be the last Test match to be played in Dominica as the stadium gears up to host its first game since 2017. West Indies has a poor record in the longest format of the game here as they have played five games with just one win, three defeats, and one draw. The visitors played one match and it ended up in a stalemate as mentioned above.
