WI vs IND: 3rd ODI Review – Gill powers India to a clean sweep

India managed to whitewash West Indies 3-0 in the ODI series after a thumping victory in the third game. Openers Shikhar Dhawan (58) and Shubman Gill (98*) continued their excellent form at the top of the order until Hayden Walsh picked up Dhawan. Rain halted the game for a brief period as the match got reduced to 36 overs per side. Shreyas Iyer (44) and Gill started aggressively and it meant that India ended up 225 for 3.

In reply, India had a terrific start with Mohammad Siraj picking up Kyle Mayer and Shamarh Brooks in the same over. Brandon King (42) and Nicholas Pooran (42) kept the hopes alive for West Indies until Shardul Thakur dismantled them. Yuzvendra Chahal ran through the lower order towards the end with a four-wicket haul as West Indies fell short by 119 runs (DLS Method).

Top Performers of the game

Shubman Gill

Shubman Gill was simply brilliant throughout the series and he was unfortunate to miss out on a maiden international century in the third ODI. The right-handed batter remained unbeaten on 98 which included seven fours and two sixes. He took apart the West Indies bowling in the last few years once the match got reduced to 36 overs.

Yuzvendra Chahal

Yuzvendra Chahal came up with a match-winning spell in the final ODI to help his side cross the line. The leg-spinner finished with 4 for 17 in his four overs and cleaned up the tail in quick time. The 32-year-old has been in really good form and will be looking to continue the rhythm with big tournaments coming up.

What next for the two teams

After securing the three-match ODI series, India and West Indies will next battle it out in the five-match T20I series, starting from July 29.
