Women’s World Cup 2022: Know the captains of all teams

Cricket fans must have their eyes on the calendar as the Women’s World Cup 2022 is set to get underway on March 4 in New Zealand. Eight teams are participating in the competition and some high-voltage action is on the cards. Notably, this is the first global tournament in women’s cricket ever since the COVID-19 came into the picture. With new challenges and playing conditions imposed, it would be interesting to see which side comes on top.

Meanwhile, let’s know about the captains of all eight teams:

India – Mithali Raj

Mithali Raj

The highest run-scorer in women’s international cricket, Mithali Raj has been nothing but a nightmare for bowlers in her illustrious career so far. As the World Cup will be her ‘swansong,’ the 39-year-old would like to take the Women in Blue to the glory.

Australia – Meg Lanning

Having lifted the title five times, Australia are the most successful side in the tournament’s history. Veteran batter Meg Lanning, who averages over 50 in ODI cricket, will lead the Aussies in the competition and would like to add one more silverware to Australia’s cabinet.

Bangladesh – Nigar Sultana

Bangladesh aren’t among the favourites to lift the cup but they can surprise the best of teams on their day. Nigar Sultana will lead the Bangla Tigers in the World Cup and many eyes would be on her. Sultana bats in the middle order and would like to make a mark in New Zealand.

Pakistan – Bismah Maroof

One of the finest all-rounders going around in women’s cricket, Bismah Maroof will lead Pakistan in the competition and has the onus to do well. After all, the title is still elusive for Pakistan.

New Zealand – Sophie Devine

As New Zealand are hosts for this competition, the Kiwis would like to clinch the elusive title on their home soil. Their skipper, Sophie Devine, opens the batting and has given nightmares to the best of bowling line-ups. Hence, opposition teams must beware of her.

South Africa – Sune Luus

Another prominent all-rounder who’ll marshal the troop in the competition is Sune Luus. The South African captain can trouble batters with his leg-spins and her ability to score handy runs lower down the order makes her even more effective.

England – Heather Knight

England are the defending champions of the competition and won’t mind retaining the title. It was Heather Knight who took the Three Lions to glory in the 2017 edition and she’ll lead England in this competition as well. The veteran all-rounder has been a prolific performer for England over the years.

West Indies – Stafanie Taylor

Stafanie Taylor belongs to the rare breed of all-rounders, who can make a place in the team just with their batting or bowling prowess. The 30-year-old has been a prolific run-scorer for the Men in Maroon and her wicket-taking skills add the cherry on the cake.
