Worst T20I economy rates by Indians

The T20I format is usually the toughest one for a bowler irrespective of his stature and wicket-taking abilities. A bowler needs to be very careful, especially in the Powerplay overs with only two fielders allowed inside the 30-yard circle.

Moreover, bowlers should also get their line and lengths right at the death if they want to succeed in ensuring a strong finish. However, there have been a few bowlers who have been at the receiving end in the shortest format regularly and have ended up conceding the worst economy rates.

This list features some Indian bowlers and without further ado here’s a look at three of them:

3. Hardik Pandya (8.22)

Hardik Pandya, who was named India’s stand-in captain for the just-concluded T20I series against Sri Lanka, has one of the worst economy rates for India in minimum 500 deliveries bowled. The star all-rounder has a dismal economy rate of 8.22 in the shortest format. Notably, Pandya did not complete his full quota during India’s 16-run defeat in the second game as he finished with figures of 0/13 from his two overs at an economy of 6.5.

2. Shardul Thakur (9.15)

Shardul Thakur has also struggled in the last few months in T20Is Until the just-concluded home T20I series against Sri Lanka, he had the worst economy as he topped the unwanted chart with a dismal economy of 9.15. Even though India had fielded a young brigade in the T20I series against the Lankans, especially in the pace department, there was no sign of Shardul Thakur.

1. Harshal Patel (9.18)

Harshal Patel has been showcasing consistent performances in the last two seasons of the IPL. However, he has not quiet been up to the mark in International T20s and has been expensive in the death overs. The medium-pacer was benched for the T20 World Cup 2022 down under for his dismal performances in the leadup to the event. However, in the home T20Is against Sri Lanka, Harshal achieved overtook Shardul Thakur in the unwanted list as his current economy in the format stands at 9.18. He was expensive recently in Mumbai against Sri Lanka with figures of 2/41, and was excluded from the next two games.
