WPL 2023: GG SWOT Analysis

Gujarat Giants was the first franchise to announce a star-studded coaching staff way before the WPL 2023 auction, which took place on February 13, 2023. Mentor Mithali Raj, head coach Rachael Haynes, bowling coach Nooshin Al Khadeer, batting coach Tushar Arothe and fielding coach Gavan Twining will be taking charge of the team at the first-ever WPL. The group managed to get some experience as well as some fresh faces to their side.

Let’s analyse Gujarat Giants’ squad:

STRENGTH

From the very beginning, Gujarat Giants aimed at getting the top overseas players on their side. They spent a hefty on getting the services of some of the finest foreign players. Interestingly, every international player that they roped in has been an integral part of their national teams. Be it Ashleigh Gardner, Beth Mooney, Deandra Dottin, or Sophia Dunkley. Thus, they have a good bank of overseas options.

WEAKNESS

While focusing on getting top-tier overseas players, Gujarat Giants somewhat failed to form a strong Indian group. A majority of big players from the Indian national team will be representing one of the other four teams in the tournament. From the Indian setup, Gujarat Giants roped in a couple of big players like Sneh Rana and Harleen Deol, but they do lack depth.

OPPORTUNITY

Playing the WPL 2023 will be a dream come true moment for many. Training under some of the legends of the game like Mithali Raj, Rachael Haynes and Nooshin Al Khadeer will be huge. The players will learn a lot from the game. They will also get an opportunity to gain immense knowledge while spending time with some of the legends.

THREAT

Gujarat Giants do not have an experienced leader on their side. While Gardner, Mooney, and Dottin bring in a good amount of experience, they will face difficulty in selecting a captain. These candidates do not have the experience of leading a side on a bog platform.
