WPL 2023: Mumbai Indians – SWOT Analysis

Mumbai Indians had a good outing at the first-ever Women’s Premier League auction. They played strategically and managed to get the services of some of the top-tier players from the international arena. Harmanpreet Kaur, the Indian all-format skipper, made her way to MI and will lead the side.

Let’s analyse Mumbai Indians’ squad:

STRENGTH

Mumbai Indians have great depth for their middle order. Harmanpreet Kaur, New Zealand’s Amelia Kerr, Amanjot Kaur, Chloe Tryon, and Pooja Vastrakar are all experts in the game and have proven their worth with the bat while batting in the middle order. MI will also have a strong top order as power-hitters Hayley Matthews and Natalie Sciver-Brunt are a part of the squad.

WEAKNESS

Mumbai tried to get the services of many other international players but lost the bidding war on several occasions. As a result, they failed to get a second-option wicketkeeper-batter on their side. The load will now be on India’s Yastika Bhatia to do well in the role. In case of any unforeseen injuries, the franchise might find itself in trouble.

OPPORTUNITY

For up-and-coming players like Amanjot Kaur, Dhara Gujjar, Sonam Yadav, and Saika Ishaque, the WPL will be a huge platform. The Indian Premier League provided several players with the opportunity to represent their country in international cricket. The WPL too will aim at opening the doors to a brighter future for these young cricketers.

THREAT

Mumbai roped in several uncapped and lesser experienced players on their side. While there will be ample experience in the playing combination, there will also be players who will be very new to the setup. It might take them time to adjust to the settings. The franchise has some of the U-19 players as well, but getting them acquainted with the pressure situations will be a task.
