WPL 2023: Season opener between Mumbai and Gujarat rescheduled

The wait for the inaugural season of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2023 is finally over as Mumbai Indians will be taking on Gujarat Giants in the first match of the tournament on March 4. However, the fans will have to wait a little longer for the tournament to commence as it has been announced that the season opener has been rescheduled.

The match will now have a delayed start of 30 minutes. Originally, MI-W and GUJ-W were scheduled to face off against each other at 7:30 p.m. IST. However, now the match will commence at 8:00 p.m. IST, according to an official release by the tournament.

“The inaugural game will have a rescheduled start and will commence at 8:00 p.m. IST on Saturday. The toss will take place at 07.30 PM IST. The gates will open for fans at 4.00 p.m. IST, and they will be able to witness the grand opening ceremony, which will start at 6:25 p.m. IST,” the release stated.

“Adding glitz and glamour to the tournament opener will be Bollywood stars Kiara Advani and Kriti Sanon. To top it all, singer-songwriter AP Dhillon will be performing some of his musical chartbusters on stage that are bound to leave the audience enthralled,” it added.

The reason for the delay is yet to be known, but it does not dim the excitement that the fans have for the season opener.

Harmanpreet Kaur will look to get off to winning start against Gujarat Giants

Both Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Giants boast an elite lineup. MI-W are led by the skipper of the Indian team, Harmanpreet Kaur. They also have the likes of Amelia Kerr, Yastika Bhatia, and Nat Sciver-Brunt to further boost their chances going into the tournament.

Gujarat Giants, on the other hand, will be led by Beth Mooney. Players like Ashleigh Gardner, Sophie Dunkley, and Harleen Deol will look to provide some much-needed impact for their side going into the tournament.
