Andrew McDonald confident about Cameron Green’s return for India series

Australia head coach Andrew McDonald is confident that star all-rounder Cameron Green will be ready before the first Test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against India. Green suffered a broken finger in the Boxing Day Test against South Africa. Thus, ruling him out of the third and final Test match of the series.

Cameron Green sustained a finger injury after he was hit on the glove by a fierce delivery from Anrich Nortje. Green walked off the field immediately with a bleeding finger. However, the 23-year-old displayed his doggedness after coming out to bat with a broken finger to register a gritty half-century.

It was later revealed that the young star had suffered a broken finger, ruling him out of the third Test against the Proteas and the remainder of the Big Bash League. His injury rendered him a doubt for the much anticipated Border-Gavaskar series against India in February. However, Australian head coach Andrew McDonald is confident that the he will be fit for the Test series against India.

“The medical team have done an outstanding job. We’re confident and feel that he will be ready for that first Test match against India. The risk was not there to lengthen the injury and that’s why he batted in that first innings. So the time frame remains the same as the initial prognosis for his return from injury. He’ll be fit and available for that first Test match,” McDonald said in a chat with a cricket news website.

Green has established himself as a crucial part of the Test team after registering a magnificent five-for against the Proteas. He even sent the record books tumbling after grabbing big bucks at the recently concluded IPL auction. Five-time champions Mumbai Indians broke the bank to add him to the roster.

Australia will be relying on the 23-year-old’s exploits for the upcoming four-match series. Australia will be eyeing a first Test series victory against the hosts in India since 2004.
