BCCI announce deadline for WIPL player registration

Just like the men’s Indian Premier League, the women’s IPL will go through the same process as the players willing to participate will need to register online to enter the player auction, the deadline for which is January 26, 2023.

As per a report from cricket news website, the Indian cricket governing body (Board of Control for Cricket in India) has already issued guidelines to both capped and uncapped cricketers of the Indian subcontinent. Amongst the capped players, a base price of INR 50 lakh, INR 40 lakh and INR 30 lakh has been set while when it comes to uncapped cricketers, the base prices are set at INR 20 lakh and INR 10 lakh for two different categories.

After the registration process is over, the five franchises that are yet to be announced will decide the final list of the players featuring at the auction amongst themselves. Now, the cricketers who will fail to get picked by any franchise at the auction table will be a part of the ‘Registered Available Player Pool’. They will have an opportunity to sign up for any team as an injury replacement or if a player pulls out from the tournament.

Auction for media rights on January 16

Meanwhile, the auction for the media rights of the tournament has been postponed and will now be taking place on January 16. The governing council of the cash-rich league has also announced the release of the ITT (Invitation to Tender) to acquire the rights to own and operate a team in the WIPL.

The interested franchises will have to submit their bid by January 21. As per initial reports, Men’s IPL franchises like Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Delhi Capitals (DC), Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) are interested to acquire a team in the tournament.

As per reports, the inaugural season of the much-awaited tournament is scheduled to begin in the first week of March. The teams will be seen competing against each other in a double round-robin format.
