BCCI announces appointment of CAC members

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced Ashok Malhotra, Jatin Paranjpe, and Sulakshana Naik as the member of the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC). The three-member committee will appoint the selection committee for the Indian cricket team according to the BCCI constitution.

Chetan Sharma and the current group of selectors were sacked recently after India’s semi-final exit in the T20 World Cup 2022. Since then, BCCI has invited applicants to become members of the next selection panel and a lot of former Indian cricketers have confirmed their applications already. The final five members of the All-India selection committee will be selected by the newly appointed CAC members.

Ashok Malhotra and Jatin Paranjpe replace Madan Lal and RP Singh

Notably, Sulakshana Naik was among the previous CAC committee and her tenure has continued while Madan Lal and RP Singh have vacated their positions. Singh, who was part of the 2007 T20 World Cup winning side, has taken up the role as talent scout for the most successful IPL franchise Mumbai Indians. Lal, who was the chairman, had turned 70 last year and will be unable to extend his tenure.

The two new appointments Ashok Malhotra and Jatin Paranjpe have played few games for India and both have held some important positions in Indian cricket prior to their appoinments. While Malhotra recently served as the President of the Indian Cricketers’ Association, Paranjpe was part of the senior selection committee until recently.

Meanwhile, the selectors who are to be appointed will have a tough year with the World Cup coming up in 2023 and it will be difficult to narrow down the 15-member squad. It was evident recently, when the selectors had a tough job to name squads for the Bangladesh tour and the New Zealand tour along with the India-A squad for the four day games.
