Most centuries by teams in T20I cricket
Suryakumar Yadav scored his second T20I century during India’s second T20I game against New Zealand on November 20, 2022, which was the only 105th international century in the shortest format. In the recent T20 World Cup 2022, only two players managed to score centuries, which amplifies how difficult it is to score a hundred in a T20I game.
Indian captain Rohit Sharma has scored the highest four centuries in T20I cricket while his deputy KL Rahul has smashed two so far. For England, the new T20I champions, only four players have scored centuries while three players settled on 99 scores. So, let’s find out the top three teams with the most centuries in T20I cricket.
1. 11 Centuries (India)
India team now lead the chart with 11 centuries in T20I cricket thanks to a recent hundred by Suryakumar Yadav. New Zealand batter Glenn Phillips smashed a hundred in the recent T20 World Cup to equal most hundred records with India but the Asian giants quickly regained the top spot. For India, Rohit Sharma has scored the highest four centuries, KL Rahul and Suryakumar have scored two each and Virat Kohli, Deepak Hooda, and Suresh Raina have managed to score one.
2. 10 Centuries (New Zealand)
New Zealand continue to give tough competition to India with 10 T20I centuries. Glenn Phillips scored their latest hundred in the recent T20 World Cup 2022 tournament to level with India. But Suryakumar Yadav smashed the record 11th hundred for India in the recent T20I series. For New Zealand, the former captain Brendon McCullum scored the first two centuries for while Colin Munro scored three centuries, Glenn Phillips and Martin Guptill smashed two each, and Finn Allen contributed with one this year.
3. 7 Centuries (Australia & South Africa)
While India and New Zealand continue to dominate the chart, Australia and South Africa share the third spot with seven centuries each. Australia’s T20I captain Aaron Finch has scored two T20I hundreds, including the highest individual score of 172 runs in T20I cricket. The star all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has smashed three hundreds while Shane Watson and David Warner have grabbed one each.
Rilee Rossouw smashed 109 runs against Bangladesh in the recent T20 World Cup 2022 to take South Africa’s tally to seven hundreds in T20I cricket. This was his second T20I century after scoring 100* against India last month. David Miller has also scored two centuries for the Proteas while former captain Faf du Plessis, Richard Levi, and Morne Nico van Wyk scored one each.
