DC vs RCB Review – Philip hands salty defeat to Bangalore

Delhi Capitals registered their fourth win of the IPL 2023 season as they defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore by seven wickets at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Saturday, May 6. Phil Salt’s explosive knock proved to be too much to handle for Bangalore during the run chase as Delhi finally managed to get out of the last place in the points table.

Coming in to bat first, Bangalore managed to post 181 runs on the board after the first innings. Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis provided their side with just the start that they needed. Kohli scored 55 runs in 46 deliveries, whereas Du Plessis amassed 45 runs in 32 deliveries. Furthermore, Mahipal Lomror’s quickfire knock of 54* runs in 29 deliveries helped Bangalore post a good total for Delhi to chase.

Mitchell Marsh was the highest wicket-taker for Delhi Capitals in the first innings; the Australian all-rounder took two wickets and conceded 21 runs in three overs. Khaleel Ahmed and Mukesh Kumar took one wicket each as well. Coming in to chase the target down, skipper David Warner’s run of poor form continued, as the veteran Australian batter scored 22 runs in 14 balls. However, Phil Salt consistently took the attack to the opposition and played a brilliant knock. The English batter scored 87 runs in 45 deliveries and led the charge.

Furthermore, through short cameo by Rilee Rossouw, Delhi managed to win the game by eight wickets. Josh Hazlewood, Harshal Patel, and Karn Sharma were the only bowlers who managed to take wickets for Bangalore during the run chase. All three bowlers took one wicket each, which ultimately proved to be in vain.
