Dwayne Bravo comes out of retirement in T20I cricket

West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo has announced his comeback from retirement in T20I cricket. The 36-year old retired from all the three formats of the game in October 2018. But major changes in administration in the West Indies Cricket Board has led to Bravo making a sensational U-turn.

In a lengthy statement on his Instagram account, Bravo explained the reasons behind his decision to return to the international fold. Citing the changes in administration, he wrote:

“For a while now I have been contemplating my return to international cricket and my decision was solidified by these positive changes. With the current leadership of coach Phil Simmons and captain Kieron Pollard and I’m really excited about this come back and the about the chance to be part of something really special.”

Bravo also praised the experienced players in the squad. He expressed his confidence that a healthy mixture of experience and flamboyant young talent could reinstate West Indian cricket to the pinnacle of the T20I game:

“We have a lot of young talent on the team as well as cricketers with a wealth of experience such as Pollard, Simmons and Jason Holder, and I believe that I can contribute to a positive change. With a powerful team as ours we can definitely rebuild the WI T20 cricket team on and off the field and improve our rankings. I will remain fully committed to WI T20 team once selected.”

Bravo has been one of the greatest T20 players in the world, playing in various domestic leagues. He last played a T20I game for the Windies in September 2016. He was a key contributor in both of West Indies’ T20 World Cup triumphs. Overall, he has played 66 matches in the shortest format of the game for the Caribbean outfit. He has scored 1142 runs at an average of 24.29 and also picked up 52 wickets.
