ENG vs IND: 5 Best performers of the ODI series

The just-concluded ODI series saw India registering a 2-1 win to sign off the England tour on a high. Meanwhile, the Men in Blue also succeeded in winning a One Day International series on English soil for the first time after 2014. The highlight of this series was that there were a few key performers who stood out with their impressive individual performances. Without further ado, here’s a look at five of them.

5. Reece Topley

Reece Topley was the only English bowler who showcased consistent performances in the ODI series and kept the Indian batters guessing especially in the second game. Topley finished with nine wickets in the series with his best figures of 6/14 at Lord’s where England registered a convincing 100-run win.

4. Yuzvendra Chahal

Yuzvendra Chahal was also consistent with the ball in hand and provided breakthroughs when it mattered the most. Chahal took a four-wicket haul in the second ODI with figures of 4/47 at an economy of 4.7. He followed it up with 3/60 in the decider to finish the series with seven scalps to his name from three outings.

3. Jasprit Bumrah

Jasprit Bumrah was impressive in the first two games before a niggle forced him to miss the decider. He registered outstanding figures of 6/19 in the series opener and then followed it up with 2/49 in the second. Apart from finishing the series with eight wickets, the pace spearhead also bowled four maiden overs in two games.

2. Hardik Pandya

Hardik Pandya seems to be peaking just at the right time and he was really efficient with both bat and the ball in the Manchester ODI where he first registered figures of 4/24 and then played well for 71-run knock in a match-winning 205-run stand with Rishabh Pant. Hardik finished with 100 runs and six wickets in this ODI series and was adjudged the Player of the Series.

1. Rishabh Pant

Rishabh Pant bailed India out from a precarious situation, having lost their top-order with hardly anything on the board chasing 260. The youngster did get a reprieve when a stumping chance was missed early on, but that did not stop him from playing his natural cricketing shots as he left England shell-shocked. Pant went on to register his maiden ODI century and also decimated David Willey, hitting him for five consecutive fours in an over before hitting a boundary off Joe Root to finish the proceedings for the Men in Blue. Pant remained unbeaten on 125 runs off 113 balls and was named the Player of the Match
