Highest all-out totals in ODIs

ODI cricket is one of the most entertaining formats of the game as it provides a good balance between T20I and Test cricket. In the 52-year-long history of the format, the crowd has witnessed several great ODI matches which has brought them to the edge of their seats. Teams often put up marvellous batting performances in the format and end up posting huge totals. However, there have been some occasions when teams have scored monumental totals despite getting all out inside 50 overs. On that note, let’s take a look at the top three highest all-out totals in ODIs:

3) 365 by England vs Scotland, June 10, 2018, Edinburgh

England captain won the toss and invited Scotland to bat first. However, the decision backfired as Scotland posted a massive score of 371/5 in their allotted 50 overs. In reply, England got off to a brilliant start riding on Jonny Bairstow’s sensational hundred (105 off 59). However, despite keeping the required run rate in check, they got all out for 365 in 48.5 overs and lost the match by six runs.

2) 368 by England vs New Zealand, 3rd ODI, The Oval, September 13, 2023

New Zealand skipper won the toss and elected to bowl first. However, he was left regretting his decision as Ben Stokes decided to go berserk right from the word go. The all-rounder played a scintillating innings of 182 off 124 balls smashing 15 fours and nine sixes to register the highest individual score by an England batter. Despite his incredible innings, England got all out in 48.1 overs for 368 but went on to win the match by 181 runs.

1) 389 by West Indies vs England, 4th ODI, St Geroge’s, February 27, 2019

Chasing a massive target of 419, West Indies were on course in their chase at 220/3 after 23.1 overs. However, after Chris Gayle’s (162 off 97) dismissal, they found it hard in the middle. But Asley Nurse (43 off 41) and Carlos Brathwaite (50 off 36) kept their team in the hunt with their 88-run stand. West Indies required 32 runs to win from the last three overs with four wickets in hand. However, Adil Rashid (5/85, 10 overs) bundled out their entire tail in the 48th over to help England win by 29 runs.
