Gill’s dream was brought to life in the first One-Day International (ODI) of the three-match series against Australia, where he played a pivotal role in India’s thrilling victory by 5 wickets.

Gill’s outstanding performance in Mohali left cricket enthusiasts applauding his dedication and skill. He scored a brilliant 74 runs off 63 balls, including six boundaries and two sixes, setting the stage for India’s triumph.

Reflecting on his emotional journey, Gill shared, “I was 7 years old when we came to Mohali for the first time. Since I had seen so many matches here as a spectator, it was a dream for me to play an international match in Mohali. I’d played a couple of IPL matches but to play an international match with my family watching was special,” while speaking to Jio Cinema after the match.

The young cricketer also praised his fellow batters, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ishan Kishan, for making the most of their opportunities in the national team. Gill and Gaikwad formed a formidable partnership, amassing a crucial 142-run stand for the opening wicket, with Gaikwad contributing 71 runs off 77 balls.

“Both Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ishan Kishan have grabbed their opportunities. They are all very eager to perform and are showing it when they get a chance,” Gill added.

Gill emphasized his adaptability and readiness to perform under varying circumstances, particularly with the upcoming 2023 ODI World Cup on the horizon.

“I feel my strength is to know when to attack and when to defend. You can expect me to play according to the situation at the World Cup. I will try to adapt to the opponents and conditions and give myself the best possible chance to do well,” Gill concluded.
