IND vs ENG: Ishant Sharma joins an elite list of Indian bowlers

Ishant

Indian fast bowler Ishant Sharma completed his 300 Test wickets in the first Test match against England being played at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai. Ishant dismissed English batsman Dan Lawrence in the second innings to get to the milestone. He became the third Indian fast bowler to achieve this feat after Kapil Dev and Zaheer Khan. Kapil Dev with 434 wickets is at the top spot among the Indian pacers with the most wickets in Test Cricket.

Ishant Sharma is also the sixth Indian bowler overall to get to 300 Test wickets. Legendary spinner Anil Kumble with 619 scalps in Test cricket is on the top of the list among Indian bowlers with the most Test wickets.

Ishant is currently playing his 98th Test match, and will soon have the honour of playing 100 Test matches for India. He will become the 12th Indian player to achieve this feat, and only the second pacer to do so after Kapil Dev. He made his Test debut in the year 2007 against Bangladesh.

He grabbed headlines with his impressive pace in the famous Australia tour of the Indian team in 2007-08. Though his performance dipped during the middle phase of his career, he has been absolutely amazing with the ball in the last two to three years. He has been a very important member of the bowling attack for India in recent years particularly in the overseas Test matches.
