IND vs SA: Jasprit Bumrah ruled out of Test series

In a major blow for Team India, Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of the upcoming three-match Test series against South Africa. Pacer Umesh Yadav has been named as his replacement in the squad.

Bumrah suffered a minor stress fracture in his lower back, ruling him out of the series beginning on October 2nd. The series against South Africa was set to be the pacers first in home conditions. Bumrah has already made massive waves in Test cricket, with outstanding performances away from home. He bowled some scintillating spells in South Africa, England, Australia and West Indies. In the recently concluded tour of the Caribbean, he achieved the historic feat of picking up a hat-trick. In order to get him fit and firing for the Test matches, the selectors had decided to rest him for the T20I series against the Proteas.

India’s key strike bowler

In a career spanning 12 Test matches, Bumrah has already picked up 62 wickets at an outstanding average of 19.24. He has 5 five-wicket hauls to his name. The pace trident of Bumrah, Ishant Sharma and Mohammed Shami has come to be regarded as one of the most fearsome in international cricket.

Experienced pacer Umesh Yadav is now set to join up the squad. Yadav has been a steady performer in Test cricket, picking up 119 wickets in 41 matches. He is likely to back up Ishant and Shami, who will now become the starting pacers in the lineup. India are likely to head into the Test series with a bowling combination of two seamers and two spinners.

With a busy schedule ahead in international cricket, India will hope that their key strike bowler isn’t out of action for long. India have a tough assignment international cricket ahead with matches scheduled against Bangladesh and New Zealand. The T20 World Cup will also commence in 2020.

The three-match Test series against South Africa will begin in Visakhapatnam on October 2 and conclude in Ranchi on October 23rd.
