IPL 2020: SRH vs DC Review – Saha-Warner blitz stuns Delhi to keep hopes alive

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have managed to defeat the Delhi Capitals (DC) by a huge margin of 88 runs to stay alive in the ongoing IPL. The Capitals are losing their way at a crucial stage, having lost their third consecutive game and still need one more win to make it to the playoffs.

After being invited to bat first, David Warner and Wriddhiman Saha launched an attack on the Delhi bowlers from the word go. Birthday boy Warner was on song and had come in with the determination to play a big knock without his regular opening partner, Jonny Bairstow. He took on the likes of R Ashwin, Anrich Nortje and Kagiso Rabada to slam a fifty in the first Powerplay itself.

The opening duo added 107 runs for SRH in less than 10 overs and after their skipper got out, Saha threw his bat at literally everything churning out some quick runs. He got to his fifty off just 26 balls and got out only after smashing 87 runs off 45 deliveries with 12 fours and two sixes. Manish Pandey then took charge to score a sublime 44* as SRH posted a mammoth total of 219/2 in 20 overs.

Delhi crumble

During the chase, Delhi lost their in-form opener Shikhar Dhawan for a golden duck while the promotion of Marcus Stoinis didn’t work. At 14/2, the game seemed to be done and dusted and both teams just went through the motions to complete the proceedings. Ajinkya Rahane scored 26 and Rishabh Pant mustered 36 runs but at no stage did SRH feel threatened thanks to their magician Rashid Khan who returned figures of 3/7 in his four overs.

Eventually, DC were bundled out for just 131 runs in 19 overs to lose the game by 88 runs and also slip to the third position in the points table.
