Last season, RCB reached the eliminator while RR finished seventh. So far this season, both RR and RCB are tied with five wins and ten points, while RCB has played one extra match. Both teams are playing their second match in Pune this season, with RCB defeating MI and RR defeating SRH at this ground earlier. The teams are facing each other a second time this season, with RCB defeating RR by four wickets in the first encounter.
