IPL 2023: 5 released players who may be bought back by their teams

Pooran

The IPL 2023 mini-auction is just a few weeks away and recently, the franchises announced their retention and releases for the upcoming season. Among the names, there were a lot of surprises and some decisions certainly were based on the current form and the performance in the previous edition. Also, the price tags were taken into account and here are five released players who may be bought back by their teams.

Mayank Agarwal

Mayank Agarwal was a major surprise release ahead of the mini-auction given his potential and also after the franchise named him as the skipper last year apart from retaining him for INR 12 Crores. The right-hander certainly did not live up to his potential last year however, he might be bought back by Punjab Kings for a much lower price unless he has any rift with the franchise.

Kane Williamson

Kane Williamson was another major surprise as Sunrisers Hyderabad named him as the skipper while retaining him for INR 14 Crores ahead of the mega auction. The decision wasn’t fruitful as he failed to deliver with the bat as well as his leadership. His price tag might have been a problem and there are high chances of Williamson getting picked up by SRH.

Nicholas Pooran

Nicholas Pooran was bought in the IPL 2022 mega auction for a whopping INR 10.75 Crores after a bidding war and he had a decent season. However, he certainly did not live up to his price tag and was released ahead of the mini auction. However, with not many big names like Pooran coming into the auction this year, SRH might be tempted to get him back for a lesser price.

Jason Holder

Jason Holder was bagged in the IPL mega auction last year for a massive price of INR 8.75 Crores but he hardly performed up to expectations. The West Indian however, is likely to go back to the same franchise for a lesser price as Lucknow SuperGiants will be keen to get back his services. He brings a lot of experience and can play a steady role in the middle order.

Daniel Sams

Daniel Sams was picked up by the Mumbai Indians last year in the mega auction for INR 2.6 Crores and he did perform decently with the ball while the economy rate did get a shattering. However, there aren’t many all-rounders available in the pool and he can tonk the ball down the order which will be an area to address for the franchise.
