IPL: Most runs in the 20th over

In a limited-over format, a batter always looks to smash as many runs as possible for his team in the final over of the innings while batting first. The same is the case in a run-chase where he looks to close out the game for his side by hitting the required runs. In the Indian Premier League (IPL), a few prominent names have managed to score the maximum number of runs in the 20th over. With their ability to go big right at the death, they collected a lot of runs.

Let’s take a look at the most runs in the 20th over in the IPL (Top 3):

3. Ravindra Jadeja (330)

Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) Ravindra Jadeja occupies the third position on this list. The left-handed batter has racked up 330 runs off 153 balls in 66 innings in the last overs. Jadeja has smashed 13 fours and 29 maximums at a strike rate of 215.68 and an average of 20.62. His heroics in the final over against Harshal Patel of RCB in 2021 are fondly remembered. He hammered 37 runs which included a no-ball. Jadeja hit five sixes with one four and a double in that famous over.

2. Kieron Pollard (405)

Former Mumbai Indians player Kieron Pollard finds himself in the second position in this chart. The right-handed batter has slammed 405 runs off just 189 deliveries in 62 innings in the final IPL overs. Pollard struck 26 fours and deposited the ball 33 times into the stands at a strike rate of 214.28. In the 2022 edition, the destructive batter tonked 22 off just five deliveries which included three sixes in Pat Cummins’ last over.

1. MS Dhoni (696)

CSK skipper MS Dhoni is way ahead than the other two. He has struck 696 runs off 286 deliveries in the final overs. In 91 innings, the right-handed batter has hit 49 fours and 57 sixes at a strike rate of 243.35 and an average of 27.84. A few of his epic last-over finishes are against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in 2016 and against RCB in 2019. With 23 needed off the final six balls, Dhoni hit 22 and sealed a win for Rising Pune Supergiants against PBKS. CSK needed 26 against RCB in the 20th over with Dhoni almost pulling off a win by hitting 24.
