Jasprit Bumrah lauds Kartik Tyagi for the latter’s magical last over against Punjab

Team India’s fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah heaped praises on Rajasthan Royals’ pacer Kartik Tyagi for his brilliant spell of bowling against the Punjab Kings on Tuesday, September 21 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Going into the last over of the game, Kartik had to defend four runs with the Kings having two set batters- Aiden Markram and Nicholas Pooran- in the middle.

After bowling a dot ball, he conceded a single to Markram in the second ball. But from there on, Kartik picked up two wickets and didn’t concede a single run off his last four deliveries. In the last ball, he bowled a wide Yorker to Fabian Allen to see the Royals over the finishing line.

The Kings suffered a collapse after getting the target down to 10 runs off 15 balls while chasing 186. Bumrah, who plays for the Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai Indians, praised Tyagi for holding his nerve under immense pressure.

I knew I have the death-overs skills, says Kartik Tyagi

In his first three overs, Tyagi gave away 28 runs and couldn’t pick up a wicket. However, he turned his fortunes around in the final over. After the game, he sounded confident about his prowess to bowl in the death overs with success.

“Feeling happy. I was injured during the India leg of IPL 2021, and when I recovered the tournament got cancelled. Very happy to get the chance today. I have spoken to seniors for the last few years. Everyone has said that game can change anytime. I knew I have the death-overs skills,” Tyagi was quoted as saying after the game.

Sanju Samson, the Royals’ skipper, talked about how using Tyagi and Bangladesh’s Mustafizur Rahman worked wonders for his team in the crunch moments.

“Somewhere we had that fight left. We knew we had some special bowlers. Kept Mustafizur’s overs for the end. Tyagi was confident with his Yorkers, especially wide yorkers. Executed them well against the new batters,” Samson said.
