Largest ODI victories by a margin of runs

Over the years, the 50-over format has featured many great players who have set and broken numerous records. One such record is the margin of victory in terms of the number of runs. Here are the three largest ODI victories in terms of runs:

272 runs by South Africa against Zimbabwe in 2010

After winning the three-match ODI series against Zimbabwe in 2010 by thrashing the visiting team in the first two games, the Proteas completed a resounding victory by 272 runs in the last game of the series. On the back of centuries from AB de Villiers and JP Duminy, South Africa posted 399 runs in their allotted 50 overs. In reply, Zimbabwe were skittled out for just 127 handing a big margin victory to South Africa.

275 runs by Australia against Afghanistan in 2015

Australia gave a proper thrashing to team Afghanistan during a group-stage match of the 2015 World Cup. On the back of some excellent knocks from David Warner, Steve Smith, and Glenn Maxwell, the Men in Yellow reached 417 runs in their allotted 50 overs. In reply, Australia’s pacer battery including Mitchell Johnson, Mitchell Starc, and Josh Hazlewood ran riot, dismissing their opponents for just 142 runs and winning the match by 275 runs.

290 runs by New Zealand against Ireland in 2008

Scotland were hosting a tri-nation series including New Zealand and Ireland in 2008. The Kiwi side stamped their authority in the first match of the series itself as they completely demolished the Irish bowling line-up as they scored 402/2 in their allotted 50 overs. In reply, the Irish batting order surrendered after scoring just 112 runs on the board, hence giving a victory to the Kiwi side by 290 runs.
