List of players to pick first-ball wicket on IPL debut

Picking up a wicket while playing your first match for your team is a great accomplishment. A bowler hopes of getting wickets in his debut match for the team irrespective of the format. But to pick a wicket on the very first delivery is the stuff of dreams. In the Indian Premier League (IPL), few bowlers have achieved this special feat of dismissing the player on the first ball that they have delivered.

Let’s take a look at the player to pick the first-ball wicket on debut in the IPL:

1.Ishant Sharma

Ishant Sharma was the first bowler in the IPL to register this feat. On the opening night of the 2008 season, Ishant, playing for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), he bowled Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) skipper Rahul Dravid for two runs. Ishant finished his spell of 1/7 in three overs.

2.Wilkin Mota

In the second match of the 2008 season, Wilkin Mota, playing for Punjab Kings (PBKS), got rid of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batter Suresh Raina for 32 runs. He ended his spell with figures of 1/24 in two overs.

3.Shane Harwood

Shane Harwood became the third bowler to achieve this feat. Representing Rajasthan Royals (RR), Harwood took the wicket of Deccan Chargers batter Azhar Bilakhia for one run in 2009. His spell ended with figures of 2/25 in four overs.

4.Amit Singh

Featuring for RR, Singh got rid of KXIP (now PBKS) batter Sunny Sohal for a golden duck in 2009. He ended his solid spell of three wickets for just nine runs in four overs.

5.Charl Langeveldt

Representing KKR, Charl Langeveldt got the better of RR batter Rob Quiney for just one run in 2009. The fast bowler ended up with figures of 3/15 in four overs.

6.Ali Murtaza

Ali Murtaza, while playing for Mumbai Indians (MI dismissed RR’s Naman Ojha for 12 runs in 2010. The spinner finished his expensive spell with figures of 1/46 in four overs.

7.TP Sudhindra

Deccan Chargers bowler Sudhindra took the wicket of CSK batter Faf du Plessis for 39 runs in 2012. He finished his spell with figures of 1/46 in four overs to his name.

8.Alzarri Joseph

Featuring for MI, Joseph dismissed Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) batter David Warner for 15 runs in 2019. He also registered the best figures of 6/12 in 3.4 overs by any bowler in IPL history.

9.Matheesha Pathirana

Action similar to Lasith Malinga, Sri Lanka’s Matheesha Pathirana is the latest entrant in the club. Playing for CSK, Pathirana got rid of Gujarat Titans (GT) batter Shubman Gill for 18 runs in the ongoing 2022 edition. He bowled 3.1 overs with figures of 2/24.
