Most expensive spells in IPL finals

The Indian Premier League has witnessed several players rise to the occasion in big matches for their respective sides. However, sometimes the occasion gets the better of the players, making for a horrendous viewing for the spectators. On that note, we list the most expensive spells in the finals of IPL history.

3) 54 – Karanveer Singh (Kings XI Punjab) against Kolkata Knight Riders, 2014

Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) posted a daunting total on the board in the 2014 IPL final against Kolkata Knight Riders on the back of a trailblazing century from Wriddhiman Saha. However, the Kolkata-based franchise scripted a sensational chase on the back of Manish Pandey’s scathing assault. While several Punjab bowlers took a beating that night, Karanveer Singh had a nightmare outing, conceding 54 runs in his four overs.

2) 56 – Tushar Deshpande (CSK), 2023 and Lockie Ferguson (KKR), 2021

Chennai Super Kings unearthed a talented fast bowler in Tushar Deshpande, who improved drastically in the 16th edition of the IPL. However, the express pacer had a knack for going for plenty of runs, something that almost cost his side in the final of IPL 2023. His poor outing with the ball saw him concede 56 runs in his four overs without a solitary wicket to his name.

Kiwi speedster Lockie Ferguson has also a tendency to lose his radar in crucial matches, and his erratic performance for Kolkata Knight Riders cost them the IPL 2021 final against Chennai Super Kings. He conceded 56 runs in his four overs, without taking a single wicket to aid CSK batters in putting up a match-winning total on the board.

1) 61 – Shane Watson (RCB) against SRH, 2016

Former Australian all-rounder Shane Watson has played several memorable innings with the bat in IPL history but the beloved Aussie won’t be looking back at his stint with RCB, especially the 2016 final, too fondly. He found himself in the history books for the wrong reasons as he conceded the most runs by any bowler in the final of the tournament, leaving 61 runs against Sunrisers Hyderabad in a forgettable night at the Chinnaswamy.
