Most wickets picked by foreign players in 1st over of IPL

A bowler’s job is to provide breakthroughs for the team throughout his four-over spell and to contain as many runs as possible as batters always looks to go after them in the T20 format. Picking up wickets for the side is what a bowler always targets but to get them in the very first over of the match is even more special. In the Indian Premier League (IPL), many overseas bowlers have snared those scalps in the first over itself.

Let’s take a look at the most wickets taken by overseas bowlers in the first over of the IPL:

5.Jofra Archer, Dirk Nannes, Mitchell Starc, Mitchell Johnson, and Mitchell McClenaghan (5)

Jofra Archer, Dirk Nannes, and the three Mitchells – Starc, Johnson, and McClenaghan have all picked up five wickets each in the first over of an IPL Match. Archer has bowled ten overs and conceded 33 runs with five scalps while Nannes has delivered 22 overs and leaked 163 runs. Starc has gone for 126 runs in 21 overs, Johnson 130 runs in 21 overs whereas McClenaghan has given away 146 runs in 23 overs.

4.Albie Morkel (7)

The Proteas all-rounder Albie Morkel has taken the fourth-most wickets in the first over of the IPL. Morkel, who has played for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Rising Pune Supergiants (RPS) and Delhi Capitals (DC), has taken seven wickets in 37 overs and leaked 246 runs. He has also delivered 130 dots in the first over.

3.Tim Southee (9)

Tim Southee has taken the third-most wickets in the opening over. The Kiwi, who has appeared for RCB, CSK, Mumbai Indians (MI), Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), and Rajasthan Royals (RR), has snared nine scalps in 31 overs and leaked 192 runs. The fast bowler has also bowled 104 dots in the opening overs.

2.Dale Steyn and Lasith Malinga (11)

Two of the most lethal fast bowlers, Dale Steyn and Lasith Malinga, are joint-second on the list. Both have picked up 11 wickets each. Steyn took 11 wickets in 47 overs and gave away 214 runs with 182 dots. Yorker specialist Malinga also snared 11 scalps in 31 overs and leaked 141 runs with 125 dots. While Steyn featured for RCB, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Deccan Chargers, and Gujarat Lions, Malinga played only for MI.

1.Trent Boult (13)

Trent Boult tops the chart for picking up the most wickets in the opening over in the IPL. The pace bowler, who has featured for DC, MI, SRH, RR, and KKR, has achieved 13 wickets in 63 overs and conceded 363 runs. He has taken the most wickets in the first over by an overseas bowler, with 233 dots to his name.
