SA vs BAN Review: QDK marvel help Proteas stamp their authority over Bangladesh

In the highly anticipated match of the 2023 ODI World Cup, Bangladesh and South Africa faced off at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi and it was the Proteas who ruled the roost with a gargantuan 149-run triumph over the hapless Bangladesh side.

South Africa won the toss and opted to bat first and despite a slow start and the early loss of Reeza Hendricks and Rassie van der Dussen, Quinton de Kock and stand-in captain Aiden Markram adapted well to the conditions. After Markram’s departure, de Kock continued to dominate the Bangladeshi bowlers and scored a remarkable century, his third in the tournament.

David Miller also played a crucial role in finishing the innings strongly, while Heinrich Klaasen narrowly missed a century. South Africa set an imposing total of 382/5 in their 50 overs. Later, Bangladesh struggled to chase the target and lost the first five wickets within 15 overs. They were unable to handle the pressure and struggled against South Africa’s fast and aggressive bowling.

Mahmudullah showed some resistance with a brilliant century, scoring 111 runs, but it was not enough to secure a victory. South Africa won the match by a significant margin of 149 runs, with Gerald Coetzee taking three wickets.
