GT vs MI Review: Gujarat display death-bowling skills to stun Mumbai

Gujarat Titans and Mumbai Indians clashed in Match 5 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday. Mumbai Indians won the toss and opted to bowl first. GT started well but Wriddhiman Saha (19 off 15) fell early. Shubman Gill (31 off 22) and Sai Sudarshan (45 off 39) did the damage control. No batter other than Rahul Tewatia (22 off 15) crossed the 20-run mark. MI bowler, Jasprit Bumrah dazzled with three wickets and he was well-supported by Gerald Coetzee who plucked two before GT finished at 168.

Chasing a gettable target, MI dealt an early blow and Ishan Kishan departed without scoring. Rohit Sharma (43 off 29) was well supported by Dewald Brewis (46 off 38). Further, Naman Dhir walked back playing a 20-run cameo. Tilak Verma (25 off 19) perished trying to up the ante. Hardik Pandya (11 off 4) came all guns blazing and trudged back to the pavilion as Umesh Yadav’s last-over heroics saw GT clinch a thriller by 6 runs

Rohit Sharma (43 off 29)

Rohit played an outstanding innings against the GT bowlers who were desperately seeking a wicket. He managed to score 43 runs in just 29 deliveries before being dismissed by Sai Kishore’s well-directed LBW. During his innings, he hit seven boundaries and a six. After his opening partner, Ishan Kishan, departed for a duck, he took charge and counter-attacked in his usual style.

Umesh Yadav (3 for 31)

Umesh Yadav did what no one in the room would avoid subjecting themselves to. He took the mantle and dared to defend 19 runs off the final over against Hardik Pandya. Though he was hit for a six and a boundary off his first two deliveries, he kept his calm to send Pandya packing. The very next ball picked Piyush Chawla thereafter to seal the victory for GT by 6 runs.

Gujarat Titans will clash against Chennai Super Kings in Match 7 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on March 26. Whereas Mumbai Indians will travel to Hyderabad for a tussle against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Match 8 at Rajiv Gandhi Internation Stadium on March 27.
