Jake Fraser-McGurk joins San Francisco Unicorns after impressive IPL debut

After an impressive show in the Big Bash League (BBL), Australia sensation Jake Fraser-McGurk signed for Dubai Capitals in the ILT20, and produced some good knocks for the franchise. Keeping that in mind, Dubai’s sister franchise Delhi Capitals signed the youngster for IPL 2024 and the 22-year-old smashed 55 off 35 on debut to help his side win the match against Lucknow Super Giants.

Soon after that, Major League Cricket franchise San Franchise Unicorns signed the cricketer for the upcoming edition. Notably, Victoria, which is Fraser-McGurk’s former state in Australia, signed a high-performance partnership with San Francisco. It will help the cricketer reunite with some of his old teammates such as Matt Short and Brody Couch, who have also signed for San Francisco for the upcoming season. Meanwhile, Shane Watson has been announced as coach for the next season.

On the other hand, Fraser-McGurk enjoyed his debut for Delhi in the IPL and stated that he had never seen something like this in cricket. The cricketer added that 12 months back, he had no contract but now, things have changed after a successful phase in the BBL. He also mentioned that David Warner was his childhood idol, and he is stoked to spend time with him in the IPL.

“It’s all happened so quick, this time last year I was struggling to get a contract for my state, got offered a rookie contract for Victoria and ended up signing with South Australia and that move has really helped me. Ever since then I’ve had a good Big Bash, played ILT20, made my debut for Australia and now a debut here and got fifty, so it’s all happened so quick, and it’s been a hell of a 12 months,” Fraser-McGurk told the IPL website.

“I’ve grown up watching David Warner throughout his career and he’s someone I definitely idolised. I wouldn’t say I tried to play like (him), I just liked the way he went about it, his aggressiveness, his attitude towards the game and the way he put bowlers under pressure is something that I’ve really wanted to do. I’m stoked to have another five weeks with him,” he added.
